Forest Star: Patents are nails in the coffin for the VoIP telephony industry
Danny Fröberg, founder and CEO of Forest Star Networks a Hosting Service Provider and Virtual PBX supplier based in Orsa, Sweden with offices in Cambridge, UK and Ottawa, Canada, sees the Council's software patent proposal as the "Nail in the coffin for the emerging VoIP and Broadband Telephony industry."

To allow the Council's proposal to go through would cause a nightmare
for startup as well as established innovators in the VoIP industry when
they are suddenly faced with the prospect of having to arm themselves to
the teeth with patent portfolios to battle the old telecommunications
and network giants. The costs alone would effectively eliminate any
attempt to enter this and many similar markets, venture capitalists and
share holders alike would most likely find the additional costs of doing
business unacceptable. The *only* things software patents brings are
monopolies and costs, period.
